Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon Binding recall

On Salomons website http://www.salomon.com/minisites/lz/index.html

SALOMON SAS ANNOUNCES A VOLUNTARY RECALL OF THE TOE COMPONENTS OF CERTAIN SKI BINDINGS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY AND OCTOBER 2008.
Salomon SAS has decided to carry out a voluntary and precautionary recall of the toe pieces of the below listed models of Salomon-branded ski bindings. The ski binding models subject to the recall were produced between July and October 2008.

In certain circumstances, the toe components of the below listed models may not fully secure the ski boot into the binding, possibly causing the binding to release inadvertently, posing a falling risk to the skier.
Therefore, these binding models must no longer be used until the toe component is replaced.

The toe components of the following models are affected:
branded models:

LZ 7, LZ 8, LZ 9
LZ 7 SR, LZ 8 SR, LZ 8 SC
JLZ 9

For the listed bindings, the toe component to be replaced bears a visible production date code ending in the number “8” for 2008. This production date code can be found on the center plate where the toe of a ski boot contacts the toe piece of the bindings.

Consumers should not disassemble the bindings. Consumers should bring the Salomon LZ bindings to a Salomon authorized Ski Dealer. The authorized dealer will look at the production date on the toe piece and will confirm whether your toe component is subject to the recall. Authorized dealers will replace the toe component of the listed bindings free of charge, with new toe components produced in 2009 that are compatible with the listed binding models.
To find an authorized SALOMON sports dealer, please go to www.salomon.com and click on Dealer Locator.

The safety of our customers and the quality of our products are Salomon top priorities. It is because of this commitment that we are issuing this voluntary recall.

If you have questions about the product recall, detailed information is available at www.salomon.com.

Someone said somewhere these were just used on rental bindings so may not affect many individuals if this is the case.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

What does something like this do to the integrity of what could be an expensive ski? Will the new binding pieces fit into the originally drilled holes? It seems to me that if the ski needs to be redrilled that this could act against the longevity of the ski and maybe users should be compensated? Its one of those things that could almost have a knock on effect.

You'll need to Register first of course.

Megamum, one would expect that Salomon would almost certainly furnish an identical but not defective replacement. They're all junior bindings anyway so a second drilling shouldn't affect the structural integrity of the hull, never mind an atmosphere loss.

Sorry, I meant ski, not hull. Wrong dimension I guess. Embarassed

They are all Junior Bindings and most of them would be rental kit only.

Think Salomons biggest mistake her is not specifying what the bindings where and who this would affect mostly.
