Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

It always confuses me as to why they don't sink in all the powder????

Can not see myself attempting that for a good few seasons. Very Happy

snowball, is the off piste fairly ok to find yourself?? Wondering about a weekend there....

Turin appears to be the nearest airport from doing a quick search....

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yes, Turin is the nearest (and through the Frejus tunnel).

To be honest I cannot remember how obvious or not it was as it was some years ago and the geography a bit hazy now. The best stuff was, as far as I remember out of sight of the lifts down several gullys. I seem to remember the largest area as requiring a fairly quick divergence under the lift to the right (looking down) on open slopes before reaching the trees, but also a small gully diverging left into a small valley that made a very good run. Since the village is up the mountain you need to be sure you don't go past it in the trees (especially on the left where you need to catch the traverse back to the resort).

It isn't somewhere that would repay a holiday but as part of a tour of the Haute Maurienne it is very worth while. Much of the best skiing is not obvious - for example an exciting steep and rocky gully that starts from Bonneval and arrives several miles down the road. But on the other hand there is a good chute right in front of that village:

into a canyon that made a very good run but required you climb out before an un-skiable bit at the bottom. (I think there may have been other, more open ways on the left but I can't remember clearly). Here is a view (down an off-piste valley accessed from a village I forget the name of) to Termignon Village in the Valley and Val Cennis in the far distance.

I should add that these pictures were taken at a time with unusually little snow depth.
