Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Crans Montana or bust

1st post of the "winter"....exciting stuff

This year I'm planning a trip before Christmas, for the first time. Ideally a Weds-Weds 16th-23 Dec. Go out on my own for 2 days and GF come out on the Fri to meet me for rest of trip.
I'm thinking Swissair to Geneva then train to Crans Montana(good reviews/fairly snowsure and suits both our ability levels, plus I liked Nendaz/Verbier last year). And from what I can surmise the train journey should be fairly painless, thanks to the Swiss).

Anyone got any suggestions on accommodation options in CM? I'm struggling with hotels as the reasonably priced are full already. (Or rather the nice one that was fairly cheap with good reviews on tripadvisor.com is full!).

Alternatively if someone has any suggestions on variations to my plan I am all ears(or is that eyes?)

cheers

geofferson,

My only suggestion is you are going early and low season why not wait and see if Crans has snow? If it does great, if not there may be somewhere else accessible from Geneva that does, then you could go there instead.

PS, I think you need to get the train to Sierre then the bus up, usually easy in Switzerland as they connect up and you can get a through ticket.

geofferson,

Typically south facing is Crans M... although the Glacier is around 3000m if open.

St Luc the other side of the valley is the same sort of skiing as CM...
Train to Sierre is 2hrs or so.

geofferson, There's a funiculaire from Sierre to Montana. They may not open all the domaine until Sat 19th. Hotel Olympic and Central in Montana are good value, simple but not too expensive and only 5 mins walk from lifts.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

the dates you are proposing cut into the Christmas week (which for Sat/Sat institutions will be 19/26th Dec). So you will probably find hotels reluctant to do that, unless and until they are sure they won't get bookings for the whole week.
