Does anyone know how I can book last minute or even get near the Alps (preferably Austrian) next week?  Tried all the tour operators - sold out....no more cheap flights.

G-Rock, unless you are a teacher or have kids, why on earth would you want to go next week: most expensive and crowded week of the whole year. Avoid it like the plague.

Last year there were still some vaguely cheap flights available and I spent 12 days in Kitz over half term. Sometimes the problem is just in getting there around this time. There's always somewhere to stay if you know the place. Ah well, it's Monday today. All over the Alps snowheads are playing. I shall do some gardening.

G-Rock, I assume that you couln't get anything. Go at Easter now instead.

G-Rock, Do you drive? Can get cheap ferry crossings on Speedferries and then it's an 8 hour blast to the Alps! I am sure you could find some accomodation somewhere. Worth calling the tourist offices. Failing that you could stay in one of the valleys and drive up each day in 20 minutes or so. Snow looks good too!

G-Rock, It's not the prices that're the main problem - you're not grasping the severity of how bad it will be on the slopes during half term. Be sensible and wait until March. Or do you actually LIKE slaloming thru ski schools and waiting in endless queues?
