Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Perhaps its would be worth checking out Bad Gastein (thermal springs), or Megeve (ice skating, polo, with spa in nearby St Gervais) snowHead

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Or Whistler, spa and shopping trip to Vancouver, or similarly Banff.

matt_lowman@hotmail.com,

I think Chamonix fits the bill and worthy of a choice for consideration.

It is the place for the first winter Olympic and so swimming pool, ice ring etc are all there. The town has plenty to see and shop. A day out to the famous Mont Blanc (highest in Western Europe) by cable car to Aigiulle du Midi and another day to the big Glacier by mountain train are good attractions.

The non skiers can also take a cable car up Grands Montet, La Flegere or Brevent to have lunch with the skiers. Everything high up in the mountain there is stunning like this.

If the non skier doesn't like height there is an excellent flat ground to do cross country skiing in Chamonix. It is hard work to propel yourself and that is why I end up here. So you may eventually gain a downhill skier friend in future.

The La Planard, which is the nearest to the Chamonix town centre within walking distance, is ideal for initiating a skier with its flat nursery slope.

It is a place with which you can go skiing yourself and leave someone behind knowing he or she will have a great time.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Badhofgastein is a spa resort, and I don't just mean hotels with hot-tubs

Helen Beaumont, has a point about Whistler.
Depends on your definition of relaxing though Smile
There are 3 or 4 spas in the town; we did a day trip to Vancouver but she could easily do a couple of days there.
There are nearby activities like dogsledding, snowmobiles, ziptrek, snowshoeing etc etc (increasing levels of exertion)
You could spend a week there without skiing and not be bored (if you're fit!)

If you do go then I recommend talking to WhistlerPlatinum - they organised (and re-organised) all our activites very well indeed.

matt_lowman@hotmail.com, Panorama in Canada, we went last March/April, it has wonderful outdoor pools and spa baths right on the slopes.

Reason we chose this resort is my Wife does not ski, she had a great time - as did SP and I.

See http://www.panoramaresort.com/index.htm

I will put some pictures in the snowMedia zone, but they are not great, mostly took video and not stills.

Somewhere else you may consider is Stowe in VT, pick one of the 'resort' complexes like the Golden Eagle or the Stoweflake. Mrs CP liked it here also.

Matt,

Crans Montana is closer to home. Great views, easily accessible mountain restaurants for the non skier. Flash hotels and spas to boot. South facing. Easy transfer from GVA. Good skiing, plenty of varied terrain and v quiet at that time of year.

Steve Sparks, good suggestion, in fact the Valais is full of stations matching the bill. Look at the website, they'll send a brochure if you sign up.

After this years poor snow at the start of January a high resort or one with excellent snow fall records would be my 1st consideration a lot of people including me were sweating it out waiting for snow in January.

Try Le Monetier les Bains [spa village] in Serre Chevalier. You can use www.miquelhols.co.uk and stay in one of their chalets or there are numerous hotels and lots of apartments. Lovely farming village and bus can take you to Briancon town with its fortified old town too - great for non-skiers. Have fun whatever you do...
