 Poster: A snowHead

OK, long story, thought I'd found a suitable resort for our much demanding family group to ski - and they have now decided they wish to try Italy. The resort i'd found was in France!
So can anyone suggest a nice resort in Italy, prefer a village with some traditional character as opposed to purpose built. Need skiing close to accommodation, suitable for beginners through to advanced, with a snowboarding child, and of reasonable extent. Also snow sureish (we are planning 20th March).
Finally, we don't do long coach journeys well, so would prefer to fly in to Turin or Milan and get a train transfer.

You could fly to Verona and take the new Dolomiti express train - there is a cable car direct from the train station. Lots of people get changed in the train loos and put their bags in the lockers at the station - very strange to see people in full ski gear on the train

kyoto49, you can't get the train from Turin airport, you need to bus it into the city. You can then get the train to Oulx, and a bus to Sestriere or other Milky Way resorts.Coach journey is reasonably quick though, less than an hour and a half.
Other suggestion would be to fly to Paris and get TGV to Oulx.

I noticed at Turin airport as I was boarding my TO bus that there seemed to be a public bus service from outside the airport to Aosta. For people travelling DIY it looks like it would be relatively easy to get further buses to any of the Aosta valley resorts or even the bubble lift to Pila. Bit of a faff with all your luggage though.

There is a train from the centre of Turin and a bus from Turin Airport to Aosta and then buses onwards to Courmayeur or cable car upto Pila. Also consider going to La Thuile.
I personally would go to the Dolomites, after having been in the summer they are beautiful and the skiing looks fantastic. Thats if you can get a bus from the train station at Bolzano to the likes of Arabba, Selva, Corvara, San Cassiano, Canazei etc
