Lacroix has launched a new ski aimed directly at the Courchevel smart set. But if you're one of those people with 50,000€ burning a hole in your pocket but not sure which pair of skis to spend it on, don't hang about as the production is reportedly limited to just 10 pairs... "Lacroix, creator of exceptional skis, is realizing a concept of luxury in the snow-capped Savoie region of the French Alps. Teaming up with Courchevel ski resort, Lacroix has combined elegance with both luxury and performance with their exceptional ensemble of full skiing essentials.
The Courchevel Exclusive ski set comprises a pair of “Courchevel Exclusive” skis, Lacroix Smartrack bindings, carbon ski poles, leather gloves, ski goggles and two leather pouches.
All these are encased in a leather travel trunk made to measure by Pinel & Pinel, the Parisian specialists in creating exclusive trunks and fine luggage. The case also has an additional drawer on the bottom as storage space and fitted wheels to make for easy transportation.
Only ten units of Coruchevel Exclusive ski sets will be produced, priced at 50,000 euros (or US$67,000), and exclusively available at the Lacroix boutique located in the center of Courchevel. The price includes a full, one year three Vallées ski pass, maintenance service, storage and delivery."

Two leather pouches? One for wearing, one for the wash?
Sounds rather drafty to me, think i'll stick with my thermals if it's all the same to you.

Can you imagine if you've just bought a pair of Carradan skis for 19,000, and someone passes by with these? Instant ego deflation...

I think the price difference is easily justified by the fact these probably actually exist (allegedly).

They're for sale in Slush & Rubble, (unsurprisingly the Harrods branch...)

Hilarious. I am frequently amazed at how easy it is to part rich people from large wedges of their cash.

I see the curent Fall Line mag has an article on a pair of 50 000 euro skis produced by Lacroix. A Google search reveals:
"Lacroix, creator of exceptional skis, is realizing a concept of luxury in the snow-capped Savoie region of the French Alps. Teaming up with Courchevel ski resort, Lacroix has combined elegance with both luxury and performance with their exceptional ensemble of full skiing essentials.

Here's a website article about them if anyone fancies a pair:

Surely this all about having ways to transport your colossal quantities of "powder" if you think those pesky customs fellas might inspect your private jet.

snowskisnow,
On seeing a pair in a shop last year I asked them who actually made the ski. "Elan", came the reply.

Presumably not a shop but the shop? The article says they are only available in one shop - unless copies are already being knocked out at 100 euros a pop

I notice the bindings are unmounted, and yet this is supposed to be the "travel" case..
Either they really are destined for the balcony, or one gets the bindings remounted as part of the pre-ski service...

It’s all perspective:
Let say I earn a great £50,000 pounds per year (about twice the UK average and not actual what I do earn!). I buy a new pair of ski's for say £400, pretty cheep as it includes bindings, poles, gloves and goggles - but not a ski pass or ski case…Oh and two simultated leather pouches..
Your average oligarch earning £20m per year for the same percentage of outlay he/she would be willing to spend £160,000 on their skis....so that makes these cheep in fact less that 1/3 the price I paid from my income….and they get a free ski pass and their pouches are genuine leather.

mountainaddict,
Very sorry, badly worded.
I meant a pair of "Lacroix" skis, but not those pictured. The one I saw had Euro 17000 tag on them (which prompted my query, purely out of curiosity...).

Think I will get a pair for the wife. She has worked very hard all summer, making jam, fruit confit, painting the new covered terrace, keeping the flower display beautifull.
Now all I need is for all of you to come and stay with us to help me pay for them. Go on don't dissappoint her.
We have snow threatened down to 2000 mts on Saturday. Like thinking positive thoughts eh
