Yes, they always do! British, 13 - 20 Feb. French, last 3 weeks of Feb and 1st week of march. Plus other assrted European countries off the same week (which is also Fasching week). Should be quiet then

One to watch in 2010 is Easter. Most English and all French schools do not break until good friday. While one might perceive the week prior to Easter to be very busy, next year some places are considering it off peak

Which are the weeks to avoid like the plague in February? Or should you avoid them all?

It's worth noting that most french schools don't have Good Friday as a holiday and the Paris zone will only have Easter Monday (5th April)off as their Spring holidays are from 16th April until 3rd May so the majority of Parisians (certainly those with families) won't be on the slopes over the Easter weekend.

I've been skiing in France the last 3 Easters and will do so again next year. I've never found it to be particularly busy.

The weeks before the main UK half term are normally OK, that is before 13 Feb in 2010. The French holidays start the week before this but it never seems to be that busy. The 4 weeks following the beginning of the UK half term get very busy, initially because of the school holidays but then this carries on as others are waiting for the holidays to end.

it can be - depends what zone is on holiday that year, as they swap around. I agree Easter is much better.

I guess this may be the case in some areas, but it does not seem to happen in the 3 Valleys regardless of the zone on holiday. Not really sure of the reason why but it may be that there is less reliance on the French market in percentage terms and many people including UK skiers simply avoid February.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I've been a couple of times to France during half-term and it's always been pretty busy in the resort and occasionally unbearable whilst driving down. So I'm trying Austria this year!!
Anybody got any experience of Austria over half-term ..... driving!

I am not sure about Austrian resorts but if you look for a Sunday changeover you can avoid the problems you normally get on a Saturday, even on the busiest half term weeks. The pistes will still be busy of course.
