Poster: A snowHead

A frivolous Friday topic, I was reading the top 10 resorts one and thought there are some resorts that are obviously good but I haven't been there yet. Hence this thread, where haven't you been but imagine would be epic and why.
(1) Chamonix: amazing off piste that falls into mountaineering terrain. I will go but only when I'm good enough to try something big.
(2) Verbier/4 valleys: Similar to above but I'm there this season*.
(3) Jackson Hole: amazing looking terrain from all the TGR videos I've seen.
(4) Kicking Horse: alleged huge descents of super deep, super light powder.
(5) Gulmarg: sounds like my kind of place: out of the way, unpretentious, good snow when the lift runs. Not the kind of place to go for a two week ski trip.
* as I'm going this can be replaced with some heli-place in AK. Reason: watch any Jeremy Jones segment from any old ski/board film.
Discuss.

Swirly, Can confirm both things you said about Kicking Horse.
lets see...
(1) Niseko, Japan. Seen too many epic powder shots through the trees to let that one escape.
(2) Mt. Baker, USA. Technically i've been there before but is such poor condition that only 1/3 of the mountain open.
(3) Lake Tahoe, USA. 7 resorts around there including Heavenly and Kirkwood.

I would like to try:
1. Ischgl
2. St Anton
3. Verbier
4. Zermatt
5. Saalbach
But thus far have not managed to find anything within budget in these resorts. Not bothered about US/Canada, too far to go for a week.

Then go for 2 weeks Any holiday that involves epic powder and ends watching the aruora flickering away on the flight home is worth it.

Ischgl: Should be a bit like St. Anton, and I like St. Anton a lot
Whistler: Skiing should be superb
The Dolomites: The food, the beauty of the mountains
Verbier: Skiing should be great, but I thinks it lacks the Austrian charm I also missed in Zermatt

for me:
as already suggested by Richard_Sideways - Niseko, Japan for the powder
somewhere in Alaska (but will never be a good enough skier to make it worthwhile!)
Salt Lake City area - Utah, USA - just looks like a great selection of places to ski very close together (and now you can easily get a post ski pint as well )
Are , Sweden - only been to Sweden in the summer, friendly locals so would be keen to visit in winter
Gulmarg - now really dreaming............

A few years ago I managed in one season to go to what my mate and I referred to as the 'Triple Crown' of Whistler, St Anton and Verbier, all great resorts but I was not experienced enough to really make the most of it.
My five resorts would be Zematt and having never been to USA and Japan and Chile I would pick two in USA and one in Japan and Chlie. USA would need some investgating but I think the resorts in Japan and Chile would pick themselves but I can not remember the names

If I ever got the courage to strap myself onto a tea tray I think I would prefer to do it Kronplatz (all gondolas) or a resort in the US with deep powder and nobody around to knock over.

1) Revelstoke
2) Somewhere in the States - not quite sure where but would like to try skiing the in the land of the free, given the amount it's raved about.
3) Coronet Peak
4) Troodos, for something completely different
5) Innsbruck - I like the idea of staying in the town and taking the bus/train to the local stations

do heli riding places count? or has it got to be resorts proper?
if they do:
kranaya polyana - russia (no idea how to spell that!)
niseko - japan
chile - don't know what the resorts are called
la grave - annoyingly i only live a couple of hours from there but have never been, special attempt needed to make it this season
morocco - atlas mountains only cos it seems weird riding while looking over the sahara desert, also heard you can take a donkey ride up the hill instead of the lift!

Couldn't disagree more.
As Mrs B is a school teacher we are stuck with school hols and have had 6 or 7 Feb half term transatlantic one week trips.
Compared with jockeying for space on European pistes and standing in lift queues there is simply no contest. For example Vail, Alta, Snowbird, Park City, The Canyons, Brighton, Deer Valley, Winter Park, Lake Louise, Banff, Panorama, Nakiska, Sunshine Village, Telluride, Jackson Hole, Crested Butte and Silver Star have to be experienced to be believed at that time of the season and on many occasions in each of them we were the only skiers in sight on the Bank Holiday Presidents weekend in February.
Give me 24 hours (and 3 flights) door to door travel and deserted pistes any time ...

Bergmeister, I get deserted pistes in Europe and 6 hours door to door, but then again I always ski outside of school holidays. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to go skiing across the pond one day, but for long enough to do it properly, not possible the way life is at the moment.

1. Steamboat, USA - for the supposedly 'champagne' powder
2. Whistler Blackcomb, Canada - as a lot of friends love it there and return time after time
3. New Zealand - destination to be decided....because then I can have 2 winters a year
4. Grindelwald, Switzerland - as one of the few places I've not done in Switzerland, I'd like to have a look
5. Kitzbuhel, Austria - more for the ski side of things, I'd love to try the Hahnenkamm race course

I'm offering up a twist- Top 5 resorts WITHIN 2.5 HOUR DRIVE you haven't been to but think would be really good:
Beaver Creek- quite a few locals like this better than Vail as it gets fewer crowds
Aspen Highlands-
Snowmass- something for everyone
Winter Park/Mary Jane- Epic bumps
Loveland- Potential for good sping storms & light crowds

Traffaut - I'd definitely recommend Kronplatz as it is very nice and of course you have the super-ski area linked to it. I'm not sure how you mean by all gondolas though as there are still alot of chairlifts? But don't worry the chairlifts were very user friendly as it had rolling magic carpets and automated gates to help you get on.
