Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hungry bears rampage through Aspen ski resort

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Aspen is under attack from very hungry bears. There have been hundreds of sightings over the past few weeks, and several break-ins. Apparently, one bear targeted a 27.5 million dollar mansion - in spite of its high-tech security system - and ripped a fridge from the wall before feasting on cheese, yogurt, honey and jam. Others have been seen trying to ride ski lifts and checking out the local skate park.
...Bears need to eat 20,000 calories a day as they prepare for hibernation. The bears around Aspen are particularly hungry this season due to a shortage of wild berries.

"But the traps don't always work. One bear simply disabled the trap mechanism, went into the cage, ate the food left there, then walked out again. He was shot later."

Harsh - We invade their enviroment, they come looking for food, so we just shoot them. If they are going to interfere to the extent of shooting them, then why don't they just interfere and feed them away from the built up area's?

Black bears tend to be fairly harmless, on the whole.

more people probably die from bee/wasp stings than Black bear attacks - maybe they should be shot on sight!

Shooting bees and wasps on sight would use up an awful lot of ammunition.

Yep a slightly more specialised role than gunning down some probably dormant bear chomping on yoghurt.

Whitegold, They are less aggresive in general than their Grizzly cousins but are still very aggresive when cornered especially in houses while eating.

They are also quite clever and adapt and conquer obstacles created by humans

Bear Advisory

The Forest Service has issued a BEAR WARNING in the national forests for this summer. They're urging everyone to protect themselves by wearing bells and carrying pepper spray.

Campers should be alert for signs of fresh bear activity, and they should be able to tell the difference between Black Bear dung and Grizzy Bear dung.

Black Bear dung is rather small and round. Sometimes you can see fruit seeds and/or squirrel fur in it.

Grizzly Bear dung has bells in it, and smells like pepper spray!

I was going to suggest that instead of shooting them, they should put them up for sale in the local pet store, but apparently it is better to stick with lions and tigers as pets instead of bears-
