Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What is meant by a bindings brake width?

Apologies of this has already been discussed before but what is meant by brake width and how does it work in relation to the ski width?

Hornster, the width of the ski the brake is designed to fit. A bit of a gap is a good thing, too much isn't.

So Salomon brakes come as 75, 80, 85, 90, 100, 115 mm width.

I think it really is that simple.

Hornster, brakes shown below. Brake width is just the distance between the arms of the brake. If your ski is 90mm at the waist the brake should be the next size bigger than this otherwise it wont fit but not so much bigger that the brakes will stick out the side when you ski. Most bindings offer various width brakes so they can fit various skis.

Nothing more exciting than that I'm afraid.

I beg to differ with RPF, but at least with solly brakes a 90mm brake will fit a 90mm underfoot ski as the brake will actually have more like 96mm space betweeen the 2 arms to allow for a gap.

I would like to add that you can get away with standard brakes by bending them. i.e. a 90mm brake will fit a 100 ski. You need to be smart about it. Its easily done and will save you £££.
