Boredsurfing, agreed - S&B not worth £4.
Fallline on the other hand. Simply no comparison in the quality of the ski review section.

Nothing to do with skiing but I've just watched Last Night of the Proms on TV. That, to me, always means winter has arrived.

ahh, my copy of s+b arrived today and was quite simply the biggest load of fumble ever, the ladies ski review only had 1 ski over 100mm wide in the "big mntn" section and Shane was described as a "stunt skiier"...I've thrown it into the re-cyc in disgust
As for Fall Line, one of the better I'll admit but the reviews are soooo biased (as are s+b's...eg sponsored skiiers reviewing the brands they're sponsored by for chrissakes!!!!!) it's really not worth reading them unless you need to check up on the dims and graphics!
Bring back Dark Summer, can't wait for my copies to come through.

the_doc, Lou, the S&B editorial team have not shown themselves impressed by such feedback in the past. My wife also thought S&B complete and utter pants.

"the_doc, Lou, the S&B editorial team have not shown themselves impressed by such feedback in the past."
you tried giving them this feedback?? I've been pretty tempted myself in the past as I use the skiclub insurance and am sick of such trash landing on my doorstep and ruining the start of my Winter!
As for WhiteDot being reviewed by Dark Summer I don't want to speak for Kiwi1 but know we both have a very high opinion of the mag (being re-released this winter) and it's pretty much the only UK mag IMO that would give an unbiased review not based on our potential advertising budget!

the_doc, both on his forum and the SCGB one there have been discussions about this. Nothing changes. A few snowHeads have wrtten fairly decent articles in it. But very little of the content offers either much information or communicates huge passion for skiing. Too much of it reads like "what I did on my holiday..." The mag continues to be IMHO - except for the very odd issue - more suited for the infllight mag of a middle level airline. The PdS detailed review and the ski tests in fallline (whatever the independence issues) are examples of how things could be done better.

Why am I so pathetically excited by this? I've been on (a little bit of) snow all summer, cursed frozen toes since they turned the temperature down at Hemel and I know what is falling in the Alps now will be gone in a week. Yet I'm still excited by this. Pathetic!

In the last 96 hours I have:
driven to Hemel to slide 150m on pretend snow
checked at least 4 webcams
re-checked that I get free ski carriage on my flight to Geneva in October (Tignes)
got over-baffled by tele kit
been on two runs as the start of my season prep
considered whether I can justify a trip to Austria in November
been irritated with the striking postmen because my Fall Line hasn't arrived
got over-excited by news on FB that the new WDF website will be live at the end of the month
seriously considered replacing my helmet because, well, just because
Some may consider this pathetic. I just think it's normal.

Sainsbury's in Wigan now has their Christmas Cakes, Stollen, Christmas Pudding, etc on display.
15th Sept, so they are a bit late this year ?

fallliner, Since you are here.... you have really got to get someone to proof-read the ski tests and make sure they are correct..
It has gotten so bad that if you don't know the ski, the review is nigh on useless as you can't be sure, the stats etc etc are correct and relate to that ski..
For example..
Kastle MX88 is 88mm and a piste/offpiste charger in that it does both very well.. your pic shows an 88 but the text and dims talk about MX78..so which did you test...?
I'd venture they are different skis and you can't bully the 88 as you can the 78, IMV.. depending on your level, of course.
Other mistakes have been as basic as prices, like the Haglofs jacket last year, which isn't so bad at all in the grand scheme of things.. ....but as far as the ski test goes, I think the idea and the type of skis you look at is great... it is just that the accuracy element, which I have noted over the last few years, is always a factor, IMV..and is undermining the whole thing..

Indeed, we do make mistakes. There are another 3 that we've spotted. In some cases we're sent the wrong image or price; in most cases it's us confusing products - given that we have six months to get it right, it's pitiful. Given that I proof read the tests, it's even worse. We are running the tests in shrunken form through the season so have the chance to get corrections in.
It was the 78 tested, by the way.
