Poster: A snowHead

Britain's world champion snowboarder, Zoë Gillings, clinched second place in the first parallel giant slalom competition of the 2009-10 winter season in Chapelco, Argentina at the weekend. Gillings normally competes in snowboardcross, in which she is ranked fifth in the world.... She entered the competition ahead of this week's opening LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Snowboardcross competition at the same South American venue.

northantsred, I'm just being a pedant. I finished well down the field in a race at the weekend, but it sure as hell was a victory of sorts to me!

el Hen, um... Zoe isn't a world champion...
I don't want to knock her, but 2nd place in a SAC race is pretty standard stuff for someone of Zoe's ability. It was a field of less than 20 athletes, the points penalty was a measly 70 (which implies the standard of the competition) and Alexandra Jekova (who won) was the only competitor with better parallel points than Zoe.
In actual fact, if Zoe's going to be grabbing a medal in Vancouver, she needs to be beating the likes of Jekova (although it was a parallel race which Alexandra has proven pedigree in. Still, SBX is her main event).
I might also add (at the risk of becoming a bore ) that Britain's ski cross athlete Sarah Sauvey picked up two 2nd places in Mt Hotham a couple of weeks ago in the Australia NZ Cup, where the penalty was 220. The points she picks up will push her into the world top 40 and seriously boosts her chances of holding down a qualifying berth for Vancouver. Excellent stuff.
Jonny luv plums, as far as I've heard, Ms. Alcott is healthy, although no southern hemisphere racing which has left her with plenty of time to listen to radio phone ins
