Inga, I couldn't think of a better time than early March to ski Wengen, Westendorf, Winter Park, Wildschönau or W@nk (ski area near Garmisch-Partenkirchen - click here for info.)
The only ski place with a W I'd avoid in early March is Wanaka, New Zealand.

David Goldsmith, well in fact w@nk doesn't operate in winter anymore, so don't go there unless you want to walk up the mountain. For reasons that are beyond me they only operate in summer these days. Shame really. It used to be another one of those great little known powder heavens dotted around the bavarian alps.

Mike Lawrie, really sad to hear that W@nk isn't attracting skiers anymore. OK, it wasn't a primary ski destination, but its branding was impeccable.

The Abominable snowHead, well it still runs in summer, so you can still take a picture of yourself and your mates having just conquered W@nk...
I go there a lot in summer, but with my mountain bike. One of my favourite training runs is from the W@nkbahn in Garmisch up to the Esterbergalm. The first 600m could definitely be deemed to be some form of self abuse, at between 19-29%, i.e approx 1 in 5 to 1 in 3.xx (according to the gadget on my bike). But, I suppose that kind of masochism is a topic for a different forum!
