Poster: A snowHead

Booked our flights to grenoble and will get an apartment off the net although if anyone has any good suggestions that would be great.
Would like to know the best area in town to be close tho the lifts that will be open mid april.
I fancy staying in Vensoc but is that a crazy hike to the lifts?
How much of the ski area can we expect to be open (10th April)?
Any other tips eg. cheapest ski hire and supermarkets etc.gratefully received
Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Venosc is a separate village several hundred metres below L2A - I'd expect nitelife would be a bit quieter. L2A Near the Sherpa/Lutins is slap bang in the middle of town and the Jandri + white eggs, supermarkets nearby too

pishposhpesh, I've never stayed in Venosc but there is a gondola up to the town itself then another walk to another gondola up to the slopes. I think the lift to Venosc stays open reasonably late too. There are lifts spread throughout the town but I find somewhere near to the centre to be best. The whole resort will be open, it closes 24th April, some of the runs down to town will not be at their best though later on. With slopes up to 3600m there will be plenty in good condition throughout the day. I go at Easter and it has always been pretty good.
There is a large Super U in town which stocks most things at prices not much different to the valley and there are a few smaller supermarkets around too. Loads of ski hire places, all the usual franchises, you can't beat Ski Extreme though for good well maintained gear at reasonable prices.
I'm sure some locals wiill offer further advice also.

pishposhpesh, I have never not been able to ski down to the village on closing day (although always by the black, and not always very good conditions), so mid April is no problem - I've just had another booking for that week.
I would not advise staying in Venosc if you fancy any nightlife at all. There are a couple of catered chalets there and AFAIK there are 2 restos and 1 bar. None of these are exactly hopping and the cable car closes at about 18.30, so you're a bit stuck there.
There are a number of Snowheads with apartments here, so you could rent from one of them to keep it 'in house' - many of them are listed on my website, but not all. Three other apartments are waiting to be put on the page. I'm sure there are deals to be done.
Sadly the supermarket mentioned is only a Marché U and not a Super U (not so cheap or big) - still, the prices are reasonable. You do pass a Carrefour, Leclercq and Casino on the way up the mountain if coming by car though.
WRT ski hire, Ski Extreme are (I think) the best value in resort and competitive on price. You can find cheaper, but might regret it later!
Enjoy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

pishposhpesh, "close to the lifts" is an interesting one. Staying close to the main Jandri express is an option it'll get you high on the mountain quickly but gets pretty busy. There are options to get on the mountain too - Diable lift (red eggs) and Belle Etoille chair. Not as high but when you've worked out your map - get you skiing quicker. Let us know whether this is a party trip or get up on the first lift sort of deal and I'm sure we can come with some more recommendations.
