Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just my opinion so may be rubbish but I think that you can either ski in bumps or you can't (thats para-phrasing Phill Smith's much used comment - If you're at the standard you'll pass, if you're not, you won't). The skis you use "may" make it a little simpler, not to such an extent that it will affect the outcome of an ISIA tech bumps section

I don't disagree with that, but why disregard ski choice altogether? I'm sure that simply changing my skis to the latest greatest pair (or the pair with the largest marketing budget) won't turn me overnight into a ski god, but there's no doubt that different types of ski are better, or worse, at some types of skiing than other skis. So all I'm looking for is a good compromise ski that I feel comfortable on regardless of whether I'm doing performance piste skiing, bumps or variables. I have a pair of these (Elan Magfire 12 from a couple of seasons ago) but there's a question whether they will confirm to the new radius requirement that BASI may, or may not, introduce. I wouldn't take BASI exams on my race stock slalom or GS skis nor my fat skis as they are too specialised, so a good all-round ski seems to be the way to go...

Wayne, i can't seem to find any reference to ski requirements anywhere on the BASI website now, but I'm pretty sure the Coach course requies to have both SL and GS skis. We only used GS skis for one day though.

skimottaret,

you will get too tired hammering bumps all day , do drills on piste, rut lines and maybe 4-6 bump runs a day max

Depends how fit you are wink I've done most of my bumps practice in Verbier, top of Mont Fort down to bottom of Gentianes - nice long rest on the way back up!!

David Murdoch, almost everyone is on 155s for dry-slope or indoor racing. Due to lack of space courses are set tighter and there's no minimum length stipulation. In fact before FIS introduced one the top WC guys were skiing 150s or 155s.

...and one of the top skiers in the country (won last year's All-England, and was 2007's 0-point skier) skis on 148s. That may well be head height for David Murdoch Wink - but he's not far off 6'.

That day in the moguls, though, I was on 170s.

Wayne, We only used GS skis one day of the course so the people who'd bought or hired for the full week were a little annoyed. That may have changed though.

Wayne, The shop at the lift stations (bottom and top) has a good selection of GS skis to hire.
