Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fuel Prices here...
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/fuel/

France, Luxembourg and Switzerland will all be cheaper than UK for sure.

edit: don't know how much to trust those figures. I paid €1.02/l for 2 tankfuls of 98 octane last month in Slovenia. The AA has it down as €1.01 for 95 octane in May, and €1.11 in June.

We go via Brussels, across to Munich, then Innsbruck and the Brenner. Don't know current prices but Germany is normally more expensive than Belgium or Austria, so if you fill up before the border you can cross Germany without buying any. Potential holdup point is the Munich ring motorway, we drive overnight and it is no problem early morning. Last winter we left Norwich mid afternoon Friday, and got to Ortisei where we stopped to ski for the day by 8am Saturday (in a people carrier, not going more than about 85mph). By arriving in Val Gardena at that time there were none of the holdups along the valley that can happen in the afternoon.

Mollerski, If you can, fill up at a supermarket in France, as they can be considerably cheaper than the motorway services. In April I paid about €1.08/l on the motorways and only €0.93/l at a supermarket.

It's off topic but just comment to andy about Slovenia. Gas prices are regulated by government and they change every 14 days. So it could be, that this page doesn't have most recent ones, so they might not be 100% correct, but at least you get some idea in what range gas prices around Europe are (at the moment 98 octane is 1.129eur/l here in Slovenia, so 1.11eur/l for end of June is not that far off).

Miss out Brussels and go via Luxembourg. The Diesel is only 86 cents a litre there.
Avoid the Italian Motorways the tolls are very expensive.
Germany is dear for fuel, in May it was 1.4 euros!
Austria is just around the 1 euro mark.
I normally take about 10 1/2 hrs from Calais to Zell am See via the Luxembourg, Munich route. 95% dual carriageway/motorway with no tolls at all.
RobinS Is that you from the NSC race team?

I was gonna say that the above routes seemed a bit strange, but in fact googlemap does suggest Calais-Reims-Strasbourg-Karlsruhe-Munich-Brenner, and going via Luxembourg is actually not much longer apparently, ie Calais-Brussels-Namur-Luxembourg-Saarbrucken-Mannheim-Karlsruhe...
Bonus of that way is less tolls, and possibility of a tankful at Luxembourg for a few euros less.
As for places to stay en route, I'd try to be at destination by early afternoon, and work back from that. It's going to be at least 12hour journey from Calais.
For s5BB I drove down after work, stopped over in Innsbruck, had late breakfast and then took a relaxed daylight drive over the Brenner Pass and up to Campitello.

Plugboy, We used to go across via Luxembourg, but the roads are better and faster via Brussels, then Liege, Aachen, and down the A61 before going across to Munich - does miss the cheapest diesel, but we find it a better route.
