Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

parking and lyon airport

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi. Does anyone know anything about long term car parking at Lyon airport? I might want to leave the car there for a couple of weeks next year between ski trips. It looks as if car park 5 is the only long term car park -and it runs shuttles to the terminal.
Has anyone got experience of parking here? Is it easy to find and use? The shuttles seem to run every 10 mins - but it doesnt say how long the journey takes etc.
Any info - or link to a previous thread - gratefully received.
Thanks

jayne durham, I am sure someone will be along with the exact answer but we bumped into a couple in a restaurant in Montchaivin in March who said they brought the car over at the begining of the season and paid something less than 300 euro and used the long term in Lyon to go back and forth durng the Winter. Saved them on rentals, don't know what number car park they used but they were very happy with the service.

Easy to find and use - yes - you drive past it on the way to the terminals IIRC.
It isn't too far from the terminals. I have walked it and it was a *brisk* 10 mins or so without luggage
It certainly used to be pretty cheap. Don't know whether this is still the case but I did harbour plans of stashing a car stuffed with ski kit there for the winter and making frequent trips through Lyon airport

Thanks guys. It still looks pretty cheap Arno. Good to know we can walk it - We'll only have hand luggage so that is great.

Shuttle bus is frequent & easy from the car hire so suspect the car park is similar though sleasyshed is opposite end of the world from the bus stop.

jayne durham, Hi!

Did it myself a couple of times last season - definitely P5, the entrance is close to the car-hire pickup/drop point.

As others have said it's well signed / easy to find when driving in and a quick and easy bus ride to the terminal building. I did find the car park could be quite busy however, and the norm seemed to be more 'creative' parking than just parking in between the white lines. The shuttle buses don't go through the car park like they do in the uk, so parking near the edge reduces access time.

fatbob, The trick if you come in on a sleezy flight with luggage and then going to car-hire or even to the 'short-stay car park', is to actually get on the P5 access bus, which then takes 30 seconds to get round to the main short stay car-park / car hire bus point - hop off here and get the right next shuttle bus. You've avoided the 10 minute yomp through the terminal building which is a PITA with luggage, as it involves going up and downstairs as well! Clearly stelios doesn't want to pay for the car hire shuttles to run to / from Terminal 3.

I heard that you can buy a season ticket for Lyon airport parking - anybody done it as flying in and out a fair amount and intend to leave the car their for 2 or 3 weeks at a time as works out cheaper than car hire.
