 Poster: A snowHead

Right.... its time for the annual anguish over where to go to this winter.... the last 3 years have been to Pas de la casa, then Les Deux Alpes and last year Meribel. Meribel was really good (Skiing and Nightlife) but with the crap euro and high prices The 3 Valleys is off this years list!
I’m looking for suggestions of resorts that maybe I have missed off my list of potentials, and also any info on the 3 listed beow. I would like to avoid France this year as I feel its time for a change. Resorts I’m currently looking into are Cervinia in Italy and also Mayrhofen & Solden in Austria

I've not been to Mayrhofen or Solden but I enjoyed Cervinia when I went a few years ago. Some great skiing on motorway type runs and of course you can get over to Zermatt. The apres was a bit hit and miss. The first year we went it was excellent and the second year we couldn't find it !
Antother option may be the Dolomites, Selva perhaps. Great skiing and beautiful scenery.

Mayrhofebn has very much the same sort of reputation as Meribel for the nightlife, so if taht is important to you, it would be a good choice.
There is a huge amount of skiing there, but it is not all lift linked - you have 4-5 main distinct areas within the Zillertal as a whole, but the buses and trains linking them are all free (with lift pass) and reasonably frequent.

All are very different but all would fit the bill for a great time. All have glacier skiing so are very snow sure. As mentioned, Zillertal is big but the ski areas are not linked. The free buses and trains in the valley make getting to the different areas easy though. Cervinia is linked with Zermatt and is a fantastic area - especially for big mileage cruising. Soelden is under-rated and also has a massive ski area. You can get the bus to nearby Obergurgl (fantastic village and nice ski area) for a change of ski scene.
Cervinia would be the quietest nightlife - but is by no means dead. Mayrhofen is lively and Soelden has nightlife which is off the party scale. All have a decent selection of eating places. Italy and Austria are generally getting on for half price food and drink compared to France.
Stick them in a hat and pull one out - you won't be disappointed.

on piste mainly reds and long blues realy... were a mixed ability group

rjb, Cervinia fits that bill. Loads of long, wide blues and reds. From the highest point (in Switzerland) down to Valtournenche it's a 22km blast. I don't know the town though I've only ever skied there from Zermatt.

I've skied all three areas you mention over the years and they all offer great skiing (can't comment on the nightlife). I agree with Colin B that Cervinia is good for blues and reds but you have them in the other areas too. mountainaddict's final comment is about right!
