ooooooooooo yeaaah
Will need to try that next time I'm back...
Good to see there's still some mud & gloop in the forest - just like the original DH track back in the day...

Fascinating. Who builds up the run? The lift company? Never been mountain biking, and hadn't realised so much commercial effort (and presumably planning approval and all that) was associated with it. Not knocking it - just saying it's an education for me.

Considering it is an hour and a half from my door it is pretty terrible that I have never been in summer. Looks sweet!

Fascinating - I had to watch to the end.
They were building it when I visited last. It was meant to be an easier track (heading off far to the left) to complement the much more direct championship course. And yes, I'm told it took a lot of planning and planning approval - trying where possible to follow the natural rock-bands and bridging the boggy bits with board-walks.

not sure if the old bike (and body) would cope with that any more...looks like plenty of places to do damage

That's the first time I've seen a man made trail.
First thoughts; looks like a bit of fun, too many planks, a bit sterile and I bet it's a belting climb

How do the guys at the side know that a fast runner is coming through?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It's probably radioed ahead to the marshalls. Then when they see him coming they blow their whistles, like what happens on rally stages. Telling other riders to pull to the side.

The black downhill run there is accessed by the Nevis range gondola - no doubt this will be the same.

easiski, I think I could be persuaded to wear a helmet if I even thought about doing that.
I take those paths are for bikes only - no piétons?

Yes, there is also a footpath.
el nombre's video is of the world cup run, which the less steep new "Red" run has been built to complement.
It starts at the top of the access Gondola, while the new one starts at the same level a short walk to the right (looking up).

Mosha, the planks are apparently to protect the local environment, which seems fair enough to me! Did you ever make it to Dalby? Trails there have a mix of gravel buiild up and planks for similiar reasons.
Cheers,
Greg

kitenski, I guessed why they were there, but I'm not that keen on riding them - no idea why. I ride 'em like I need stablisers on.
Never made Dalby, in fact I've never even seen any of these designer trail places at all.
Must make an effort though.

Yeah, he's ridculously quick, thing is, he's pretty much cruising, i doubt he'd be able to do a running commentary at race speed.

I have never tried any proper off roading but this makes me want to to give it a go. Ski season is far too short.
