Well not the best of weekends I've ever had. I was supposed to be on a weeks hols in Tignes this week however things didnt quite turn out a planned. As I had a day spare I decided to meet up with a friend in Meribel for Saturday. I was a pretty good day, some nice safe off piste runs through some pretty heavily tracked powder. It was all going well until about 3 when I hit a few jumps. The first was a big one which I landed nicely. I then spotted a small kicker, no problem. Wrong. It turned out to be a lip to a quarter pipe . Doh! the kicker spat me up and I came crashing down from a 5 feet onto my ar$e. I knew it wasnt good when I heard the crunch  I took a minute for a bit of deep breathing, however the pain was going nowhere. Movement was ok so it couldnt be too bad, bending over was a problem. Rode to the lift and headed straight for the doc. A quick xray later showed 1 fractured vertebrae. Game over. Well the pain has pretty much gone now after 3 days on my back. I can walk around ok and now that I'm back at home I must check out the doc for a bit more advice. From what I've read and been told, the recover period is 6-12 weeks so I'm not holding my breath for another run this season,
BTW Conditions in Tignes are amazing. I was looking at them for 2 days !!!

6-12 weeks eh?
Well, 6weeks takes u to mid March so you're fine there.
12 weeks takes you to the end of April - so we'll see u at the end of season bash then; just see not to bash your end again this season

Tough break....
A mate of mine broke his pelvis doing something very similar.....
He now sounds like a broken record about never jumping when you can't see your landing...

Diarmuid, get yourself to the end of season bash ! Just checked and you can still get Newcastle to GVA for only £46 return. Your local airport might be the same.

Thanks for all the wishes. Went to the doc here today and she was a bit freaked out that I wasn't in more pain. Going to a specialist tomorrow. I think he's going to put me in a corset. (sp?) Don't think I'll live this one down !!
