Schladming in Austria is offering skiers a computerised record of each days skiing: vertical metres covered, lifts used, number of kms covered on the pistes etc. This log - known as 'Skiline' - can be automatically generated for each liftpass holder and is available as a print-out. Grindelwald (First) are doing a similar scheme, but only regarding vertical metres covered. You get a certificate for 5000, or 10000 (I think?)

Its good fun, used it on our recent trip, only drawback is if you go to other areas covered on the skiamade pass the information isn't recorded.

Here's a new gadget which will be available very soon which will give you total downhill distance in any resort.

The units have been designed to be worn on the upper arm, which is apparently a first for GPS sports gear. They're accurate to within 10-20m over 1000 metres and will be available in sports shops from February onwards. Incidentally, if you don't like the allotted colour of your chosen GPS Sports Tool, you can get add-on clips to change it. |

kuwait_ian, I've got a wrist watch barometer, which does the vertical bit of the calculation. Lorraine Agass, anorak, indeed; I think the correct term is 'boy'.
