Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR North Face Mont Blanc

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Having had 2 weeks in the UK (bad timing!) while the Alps were 'going off' (North Faces of Tour Ronde, Aiguille du Plan, Pain de Sucre etc etc etc) I was fired up for at least one last adventure for the winter, and with good first-hand reports from the de Benedetti route on the West Face of Mt Blanc an early rendezvous was arranged and Will, Ross and myself headed up to the Midi ready for some suffering...

Despite a 100% sun forecast the Italian side was cloudy, and with a cold wind blowing plans were adjusted and we dropped down the North Face instead...

Skinning up Mt Blanc du Tacul:

Ross scampers under the somewhat threatening seracs on the north face of Mt Maudit:

Will & Ross at the Col de la Brenva (4350m approx)

Ross at 4500m on the North Face:

Looking back up at the North Face from 4000m - the route passes between the big serac bands:

A short rappel is currently needed at about 3900m to pass a serac/crevasse:

Looking down at the 'Jonction' amazingly we only took skis off once going through this:

Sahara-coloured seracs/penitents at the Jonction:

Sadly with very warm temperatures now i fear this may be the last outing for the 'winter'... oh well, time to get rock-climbing again...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi Arno, yes that was the original plan - we even had a lift back from Italy lined up... oh well, next time... pretty full-on expedition though, with plenty of 'interest' still to come once you get to the bottom of the main face. Narrow snow bridges over big holes on the Dome Glacier between Q.Sella and Gonella huts by all accounts.

By the way, currently lining up next winters dates, so will keep you posted with Steep Vanoise II plans.

Nice TR..... Finish season with a visit to the big one is always amazing. Here in the Pyrenees is also common to close the season with the same way.

Past weekend some friends also can ski nice vertical in Neouvielle area with 10cm of new snow, but also the high may temperatures break the epic season (But, about 8 months of ski is not bad at all...)

Also tempted with Vanoise wink
