Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix Jan 22 to 29

Back from a week of superb conditions in Chamonix. Arrived Saturday and got an afternoon in Les Houches where there was full cover and lots of snow on and off the piste. Anything about half way down was starting to soften up a bit by the end of the afternoon. However all that changed on Sunday and Monday where up to 40 cm of new snow arrived. Conditions were superb on and off piste but the avalanche risk was naturally on the high (4) side and visibility was poor away from the trees or areas with at least some definition. Through the week there was less snow, some really cold (-20C) conditions with wind chill but also some sunshine. We had great powder skiing in the trees most of the days even towards the end of the week when conditions off-piste normally involved wind-crust/compacted snow. The top of the Grand Montets list only opened once during the week due to the avalance risk and subsequent high winds. There is a new lift from Vallorcine which opens up some new tree runs. There wasn't many people about and the Grand Montet lift was only really busy when the powder hounds were straining at the leash first thing in the morning. The bus service was OK but its a pain when you have several people to get to one place and then find that the lifts are closed or will open later when the wind eases. If you are going to Cham, I'd recommend a car. We stayed at the Hotel Les Aiglons which is 3 star and is to be recommended.
