Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Early season skiing

I'm looking to book a week from 13th December. Currently trying to decide between early bird offers in Tignes or La Plagne. Does anyone have any comments about the relative merits of these resorts for early skiing?

Of the two, I'd definitely go for Tignes in mid December.

foggy, I'm off to Tignes the previous week and went the same time last year when there was loads of snow and all the resort runs were open. Don't know about la Plagne haven't been.

I've been to both around that time in the last couple of years. I got lucky both times and had excellent snow and plenty of runs open, but that's sheer luck.

Of the two, you're probably safest at Tignes as pam says, as it's more geared up for an early start. La Plagne has a glacier, but may not open much of the resort ahead of their published opening date even if there's plenty of snow.

foggy,
We go to Val around that date every year, never had a problem & the link to Tignes has always been open. Just remember one thing, it'll be bloody cold!!!!!!!!!!! Especially up on the glacier!

Was in Les Arcs & Day tripped La Plagne that week this year. Had loads and loads of snow and was totally empty, so one of the best weeks of the year for sure.

If going to la plagne then be a bit choosy about where you stay - Belle Plagne / Plagne Centre might be more sensible for that time of the year than some of the more outlying areas.

Thanks for the advice - it's looking more like La Plagne as we have had an extra person want to come and the chalet we're looking at in Tignes can't take any more, the one in Plagne Soleil (so decently high) can.
We know that it's a bit of a risk - we skied at Christmas 2004 and the snow in 3V was a bit sparse then. I doubt that the Vanoise Express will be open so sadly no Aiguille Rouge to Villaroger fun.

Come to Villaroger, Les Arcs and ski Les Arcs and if for any reason snow is not brilliant Val D'isere/Tignes is only a 25 min drive away.

We take early booking especially for this reason, guaranteed skiing whatever as Val and Tignes are so close.
