Well, with no disrespect rob, the Standard clearly had a skier and photographer in there no later than Monday 27 April, because their story and photo (opening posting here) were published the next day.
Dunx's story says "We think we've captured the first freestyle at Hemel tonight, when some of the staff and recent volunteers were asked to check the slope out in preparation for the press opening tomorrow." And that story was filed in a dated sequence on Wednesday:

Dunx was the founder of SCUK, a good few years ago.
Although I don't board, I always found his site a useful reference to dry slopes and fridges (both existing and potential).
