Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cant Feel My Toes!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Everyone,

I bought my first set of boots last week (X-Wave 8's) im really pleased with them but when I tried them on last night for about 45mins as the bloke in the shop suggested, by the end I had pins & needles in my toes Puzzled and when I took them off, I actually couldnt feel my toes at all.

The buckles around the toe area were as loose as they can go.

Are these boots too tight for me? or will they get better as I wear them in.

Oh also..

I was sat / standing still watching TV I suppose this world effect circulation??

I don't think sitting watching TV is a good test of boots. Standing & flexing a bit is a better bet.

Yeah, once your toes have dropped off, they'll be much more roomy Skullie

When you ski you (should be) leaning forward on your shins and your toes will pull back as your heels press against the back of the boot.
Unless that's how you were standing then, sure your toes will be crushed.
DYOR. IMHO. ect,ect.......

They will ease a bit with use but this sounds pretty extreme. I would go back to the shop if the change is that dramatic. I've tried new socks in my (well fitting) boots and everything was fine until I sat down (all right then, lay back on the settee) to watch the TV for about 20 minutes and then I got the pain - so it was all down to the abnormal stance (except when I "catch an edge"!) rather than the boots.

Try loosening the top 2 buckles rather than the bottom 2 - if you have circulation problems it's more likely to be because the blood can't get past your calves, make sure you wear one pair of thin socks, and like others have said, that you are standing up and not sitting in a warm room. The other thing is, boot liners tend to pack out slightly over time so although they might be very tight now, they should loosen a bit as you ski the first few weeks.

Go back and get them punched out a bit.

Going by my X-wave 9s, I would hold back before doing anything irreversible. My liners certainly loosened up a good deal in the first three days skiing. Again, I second that about circulation being affected by the upper buckles and felt in the lower foot.

I agree. Wait 'til you ski on them first - if still a problem, dead easy to get your boots altered in resort overnight.

Ok, I'll wear them a load more between now and when I go (end of Feb) to try and loosen them up a bit. I think the problem is too much pressure over the instep or around the calves cause theres plenty of room to wiggle my toes a little.
Not really much i can do with the buckles - their all as loose as they can go.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

freebie, you have the Customfit liner and it was _not_ heat-moulded to your foot, is that correct?

The buckle/clip across the instep should be of a different colour. It is designed to be easily shifted on the shell to best fit your foot.

 You know it makes sense.

Yeah its a Customfit liner. But the bloke in the shop did put it on a heater for about 15mins then I wore them while they cooled down.
Im pretty happy with the fit, there's no pressure points so I dont think the green 3d buckle needs adjusting.
As their my first pair of new boots, im not sure just how tight they should be. I feel like I could hapily wear them quite a bit tighter - but as they are now they make my toes go numb.

Ive only tried them once and I think it was because I was stood still of about half an hour. I'll try again tonight and try wiggling my toes and moving around a bit.

freebie, very well. You've some good stuff to work with above (I like Plake's advice).

Be also aware that you might be a candidate for insole and footbed work. Things like arch support are really hard to get just right for every individual without modifications to factory spec.
