Seems The Highlander has finally decided to hang up his boots. Alain Baxter has announced it's time for him to retire from racing. ... More on this website
Sad to see him go but not really surprising I guess after the way results have been going gutted I'm not in meribel to see him race the slalom in his kilt tho I for one will never forget jumping off the couch and throwing beer all over the house when he won his bronze in salt lake city....... (and will always think of that medal as being his really)
I'm sure he will be missed in the team and I know I'll miss watching him race, and I think he deserves a lot of thanks for being an inspiration to so many youngsters in the sport - showing that it can be done by the brits!!

They should give him his Bronze back.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Shame. Not only is he British and reasonably talented, he's very cute too...
No more naked calenders?! Wasn't that supposed to fund his trip to 2010 anyway?
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

DB, Raich told the olympic officials he didn't want the medal and it should be given back to the guy who won it...unfortunately they didn't see it that way

Best home grown skier we've produced. Will take brill memories from when he rocked the WC for those coupla seasons. Awesome ski racer.

I understand he has been having a lot of back trouble but it is quite cool that he doesn't bore us with this fact and just says that the time has come. Great skier. I vividly remember screaming at the telly and jumping up and down like a mad thing when he "won" that bronze. He single-handedly blazed the trail for British slalom skiers (before him the emphasis was DH all the way) and now others are following his tracks.

Me too. I was in a hotel in Paris, and I was jumping up and down on the bed, not quite believing that he was hanging on to a podium place as one skier after another either crashed out or failed to reach his time. A great day!
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Re-live the moment... http://youtube.com/v/1DLpW5gnSwU - somehow far more exciting in French. Baxter is second up in this clip but sadly they don't show his whole run (I'm trying to find it - it used to be there). At around 6 minutes you get the moment when Miller skis out. The 'tators go crazy.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

He did the first run in the slalom in usual retirement style, wearing his kilt and stopping several times on the way town to talk to people.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Bode Swiller, why is it cool to not bring up his injury problems?
You know it makes sense.

Peter Ross, he's has a lousy season, he hasn't made excuses, hasn't bored us with his back issue, hasn't moaned etc.

Bode Swiller, fair enough, but if your injured your injured. I am surprised he has continued so long as I would have thought money is hard to come by or do they get national lottery funding?
