When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This passed weekend, Verbier hosted it's annual Freeride Festival, "The O'Neill Verbier Extreme" which this year for the second time, saw the closing round of Nissan's prestigious, 'Freeride World Tour.'

The event was an unsurpassed success and the following winners were crowned.

Isn't freeriding and competition mutually exclusive... I never get it, the whole purist ethos of free riding is meant to be free spirited dancing with the mountains but the pinacle of the movement is now judged competitions... Way too MTV for me and just seems like a way to fund ones skiing habit and get sponsorship cash. Nothing wrong with that but why is one persons free ride line down the hill that much better that the next guys?

....difficulty of line choice, aggression, flow, quality of skiing - all judged but doesn't stop it being "free" ride rather than a prescribed course
