Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

maintenance / wax question

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Due to circumstances I didn't make it out to the slopes last year, and the year before my holiday was cancelled due to no snow Sad However, I had my skis (Volkl 5*) done before that planned trip two years ago. I checked them today, and they're still pretty sharp (cut my thumb). I'm heading out to Lech this Saturday.

However, I was wondering about the wax. There is still on there, but it's turned white and a bit lumpy. Should I have these redone, or should I be fine ?

Thanks,

Nick

The wax shouldn't be "on there", but rather "in there" - it is supposed to be in the pores of the base, rater than on the surface - you are supposed to scrape any excess off the surface when waxing.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If the wax is visable, sounds like a storage type wax. As alex_heney, said prepared skis have no visable wax. It should be impregnated into the base surface of the skis. Whitening can indicate the base of the ski has dried out, like at the end of a weeks ski-ing. If you are certain there is wax there and base is in good nick they probably only need a scrape, brush and polish. If you want to be certain then a further wax will not do any harm.
Hope you have fun at the Lech.
