Poster: A snowHead

Seen a good deal there for the last week of March for three blokes. Interested in it A) because ADH is somewhere we've never been, B) have been with Crystal before and got great service, and C) the Vallee Blanche does no supplement for single travellers - there are three of us so don't want to excess charges for the guy who sleeps in his own room.
Trip Advisor has a really varied set of reviews but wanted to know if any of you guys had stayed there?

Specialman, just don't expect too much and I'm sure you'll have a fine time.
Some of the tripadvisor reviewers are amazingly naive though aren't they with a clear case of unrealistic expectations from most of the whingers. Just about anyone could suss out from a brochure or website just by the relative price that the 'club hotel' is the holiday company's method of providing the lowest budget half board / catered chalet arrangement possible.
Some people are just plain stupid though. I mean, do you really believe this ?
"We paid for 7 nights bed and half-boad, but only got 6 as the chef had a day off - not mentioned in any of the literature prior to booking."

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Haven't stayed there for about 10 years. We had a great holiday there but the drawback really is access to nearest chair/slope. It isn't ski in/ski out and the closest lift is either the bucket lift up to the central bowl or a chair which links into the Les Bergers/altiport area. From the hotel, it is a 2/3 minute walk to a series of steps down to either of the lifts. If you have found a really good deal though, go for it. ADH is a vast ski area with villages to ski to. Sure you will enjoy it if you do go.

Specialman, I'm with moffatross here - Tripadvisor is a haven for the kind of stupid punter who doesn't bother to read the brochure, pays £250 for the week and then expects a five star hotel.
The VB is a fairly bog standard TO clubhotel, no surprises. It's a bit awkwardly placed, as Janska says, but assuming you're not completely decrepit you shouldn't find that a problem, especially in board boots.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Stayed there several years ago. At that time the food was not very good. Turns out the Chef was also the plumber. Probably why the food was closer to shite than proper food. The rooms were fine. As it backs up to the river and the sounds were pleasant. The location is near the center of town and quite good. Over all I'd not stay there again.

Stayed there in 2000... it was fine, clean, firendly, decent location, decent food, decent wine, decent value for money.... everything was decent.... it's NOT a 4 or 5 star hotel, so go with realistic expectations and you won't be disappointed. I'd stay again if I did happen to be in Alpe d'Huez again but I don't ski in France anymore if I can possibly help it from personal choice....
