When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

One year on ... ski racer Matthias Lanzinger will sue FIS following leg amputation

One year after a disastrous crash during a Super G race at Kvitfjell in Norway, lawyers for Austrian ski racer Matthias Lanzinger have announced that he is to sue the International Ski Federation and the organisers of the race.

Lanzinger's leg was amputated below the knee, following difficulties with surgery, delayed by the lack of a helicopter at the race-side. His bindings failed to release, exacerbating the injuries and causing an open fracture that caused blood loss and a threat to his life. It was said at the time that Lanzinger's leg might have been saved had he received more speedy attention by surgeons.
