should be fine, sport specific stuff is generally just a way off upping the price...I use my base layers, for ski, mountianbiking and walking even just to mooch around in sometimes... one thing though if its man made fibre then it will stink quicker then say merino no matter what the spiel says about anto bat...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Kruisler, should be perfect. I use my base layer leggings for gym (I was advised, because of a hamstring injury, to use compression leggings for all sport etc) hiking and skiing - super-comfortable in every situation. And, as you say, the streamlining effect is an added bonus!

I use Canterbury thermals which i buy for £15. They are the same as £50 "skiing" ones in all honesty.

Thanks for your info everyone.
rob@rar,
Mine were £20.... (From Decathlon, so at £15 the Canterbury ones look like a bargain..)
I am (was?) happy with my current snowbaording ones but I just love these one.
The material has a different "feel" on the inside, i.e. not the sleek/cold one it has on the outside (which is as per a lot of man-made fibers thermals) but a softer/warmer aspect to it...defo not an "inner" layer though...
That combined with the fact that it is really tight, makes it feel like a second skin (best way I can describe it..) and I find it so much more comfortable than my other thermals..
Based on everybody's comments so far, I'll defo try that for boarding...Got to wait for April though..

I am indeed hoping for it to be quite durable.
this a rugby top after all...It would be embarrassing for me to be "stripped" on the first tackle attempt and find my nice trim body suddenly "exploding at the seams"!

This sort of thing won't be any use in the mountains. Rugby training kit is only designed to be used at low altitude and will not work above 1,000 metres. You need to go out and buy a whole new set of kit.
Oh yes, and if you fish, you will find that fish are put off by rugby tops and you have to buy fishing-specific thermals.

You know it makes sense.

James the Last,
Thanks for the details.. Is the 1000m limit standard or depends on the country? Is it linked to the price of the pint?

I know people who actually think like that. This season i was with people who must have spent £200-300 on all their thermal gear with their skinz and icebreaker stuff. Canterbury thermal online for £14 so..... M&S thermals are also VERY good and only cost £17 for a long-sleeve merino one.
Ski stuff is generally a rip off.

M & S have some good looking merino wool jumpers (at least they look good on their website). Might have a look at those. I got a Patagonia base layer in an outlet shop in North Wales which I wore almost solidly for six weeks from Christmas (washed and dried overnight every now and then) but even at supposedly sale price it was still expensive. One of those M & S ones over the top might be just right, and far cheaper than the specialist sports ones.

I got a good M & S baselayer in the kids section a couple of years ago....think it cost £9. This year the kids thermals were a cotton mix, so had to spend an extra £2 and get an M & S adults one to eliminate the cotton. They work as well as my £20 Helly Hanson one, and a £30 S & R one, if not better.
