Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Calgary ski shops

This is directed at the one or two Calgarian snowHead s.

I'm heading out there in a few weeks time and wanted to know the best ski shops in town to get some decent deals on new skis. Exchange rate isn't great at the mo, I know, but I'm hoping with some reasonable reductions there may be some bargains out there.

Cheapest generic sports shops are probably sportsmart & sportchek (think Canadian equivalent of JJB & super soccer sports), Ski Cellar & Freeze are specialist plus a whole cluster of shops around Mountain Equipment Co-op on 17 SW I think

Hey,

If you have time to head up to Edmonton, I would go up to Pacesetter in edmonton, they've been around for 20 years or so and they're great.

If you want to stay around calgary then I agree with fatbob, give Ski Celler on 14th street and 17 ave S.W a try... or maybe Abominable Ski and Snowboards, I noticed there's one of these in banff as well but I've only seen it from the outside...

spyderjon,

Thanks for the Lous link - never been there.

Tommy4681, If you know what you want then as fatboob said cheap shops are sportchek and sportsmart- but don't go there for advice or service. We are based in NW so have no idea about shops in the south (well the deep south anyway).

Ski Cellar also has a place near COP and so you could tie that in nicely with a visit to Lous.

Abominable is on Crowchild- they are pricey though I think.

Ski West in hillhurst kensignton area is good.

Mountain equipment co-op is good for clothing and ski-touring but has no alpine skis.

Monod in Banff has some deals on their website, and their shop is good. Am after some Rossingnol Voodoos and they are by far cheaper than anywhere else.

I think skis over here are expensive though, compared with the prices I remember in the UK (left 15 months ago) .

Thanks all. Staying with family in the NW so tips around there are particularly useful.
