Poster: A snowHead
|
I am an intermediate adaptive skier, I am a 4tracker and I use a ski bra. this past season has been something of a nightmare because suddenly my feet were killing in my boots.
-I am flat footed
-I am knock kneed
-and I have lateral torsion in my legs outward (aka duck foot, but due to bone)
All of this combined leads to major over pronation problems, which in turn give me good sized bruises on the inside edge of my ankle and foot
I am planing on buying new (maybe new-sih) ski boots soon, is there anything I can do in a new boot to make it even slightly more comfortable?

See a bootfitter preferably one in or has worked in resort.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

and what specifically should I ask for?
also would putting a pair of custom made plastic orthodics (like say a small pari of braces that can fit in a boot) fix this?

slam7211, a good bootfitter will tell you what you need, you shouldn't have to ask for something specific (you aren't expert and they are)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

slam7211, Aaah, now that might be a bit tricky - this is predominantly a UK based forum, although we do have folk across the pond as well. It might be as well to start a new thread entitled "anyone know a good boot fitter in Philadelphia PA".
Hope you get sorted, and stick around

AHH... no wonder there was all the british speak on the forum (please dont kill me if that offends anyone) I will probabbly do that but one last question
if I cannot get a direct recomendation for a good bootfitter, I will probabbly try and find one near me on my own, are there any easy ways to know weather a place is "good" or not?

slam7211, Are you a member of a local sking club, or do you have an instructor who you coudl ask? I think a personal recommendation is always best. Here on the forum we have the venerable SMALLZOOKEEPER and others in Chamonix who are very highly regarded, and the highly regarded CEM who is a certified pethordist based in the UK - loads of snowheads have been fitted by them and recommend them at every opportunity - I guess you need to think about who you know in skiing and whose opinion you value. With your issues you will probably want a specialist.
You might try posting on epicski.com - it's an american forum and I found this recommendation (and there was nother vote for him):
Bootfitter: Billy Kaplan
Store: Langhorne Ski and Sport
Langhorne, Pennsylvania
Phone: 215-295-4240
Comments: I have been fit in some of the most respected and well-known ski/boot shops in the country, but none compares with Billy Kaplan. Although located in the Philadelphia suburbs, Billy's knowledge as a certified pedorthist and bootfitter is unmatched in my experience at any of the world class resorts I have visited. I am a physician, and can recommend Billy for his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, as well as ski equipment and technique. This knowledge base, which includes experience on the World Cup circuit, coupled with a true caring for his clients, makes Billy Kaplan the best bootfitting expert I have come across
