Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski recommendations for my wife

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Blue run skier, heading cautiously to red runs. She's now on 150 cm Atomic C:9s (bought here on snowheads), which she likes, but which have rental bindings so are quite heavy.

Any suggestions on what to look for? Needs to be turny, but I think she would also like a little more control at speed (well, speed for her standard, she won't be bombing down a red run).

She's quite light for her 164 cm height so probably won't need a burly ski. Offpiste is some time away.

We would probably prefer to get a model from 1-2 years ago rather than paying 400 Euro+ for a pair.

In Selva Gardena from tomorrow, so suggestions on what to look for are welcome!

My wife replaced her worn out C:9s 3 seasons ago with K2 Burnin Luvs. She really likes them.

Hi
I used to have Atomic C9 and they were very heavy, the bindings on the C9 were the same , rental or not. I then had Atomic Izor 7 which was really good but still heavy, and I developed tendonitis from lifting them up into the gondola. So I spoke to the experts in our ski rental shop , and he said Atomic are all heavy. So now I have Blizzard specific for ladies, and they are great, they are so light. I am a competant skier but do not like speed too much, I do reds and sometimes black, I do not go off piste . I tried 3 ladies specific skis and they were all so much better for me.( Volki and Soloman ) . Mine cost €150 ( but that because I live here and have a business ) but I dont think they are more than € 250 new, and you may be able to buy an exrental pair. They are pale blue Blizzard Passion 3. I reckon about 10 of our guests last season and this season have tried them and bought them.So they have proved popular with the ladies. Razz

horizon, Movement do a range of women specific skis and are light but well made...

I whacked a big rock with mine and expect a mess on the basses...and found just a nick...

I am not sure how far down the range that sort of thing goes but I appreciated a hard base..

Noblecustom have back catalogue still, I think..

Maybe a Chica or Spicy or something on those lines...

My wife has Movement Spicys. They're great skis, but probably a bit demanding and off piste biased for what the OP described.
Head make some nice women's skis. Cool ones might be worth a look or the previous Cool Thang. Easy to use and good performance.

horizon, If they were the ones you bought from me, then they didn't have rental bindings and they were really light. Puzzled
If it's any help, I moved on to Volkl Arenas in 154cm - a more sporty ski but with really good edge grip - real confidence giver. They are 'turny' - good for short turns and a good carver, although a tad unforgiving. I've nearly outgrown these - would like a longer, more off piste orientated ski, but on the piste the Arenas are mustard.

That sounds like what I was like a little while ago when I bought my skis. I bought unisex Elan Magfires which I love. They have a pretty short turning radius so are easy to turn but are quite stable as well. I think the womens version of the Magfires would be some of the "spice" skis and I know all of the reviews of Elan skis by women have been really positive. You can also usually pick them up quite cheaply on ebay from Europe.

I have the Dynastar Exclusive Active's and love them - they are real confidence givers - forgiving but still have allowed my skiing to develop significantly without feeling too soft. Got them when I was mainly on blues, now mainly on reds and still feel I can stretch myself as they really encourage me to work the skis on runs where I feel confident.
