Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Electrical Question

Hi Gang,

Is it safe to plug a UK multi plug adaptor into a single European travel plug? eg. charge a phone and a camera at the same time.

I was hoping this would be a cheaper option than buying 3 or 4 travel adaptors.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum!

Thanks,

Ian

Ardsian, I put a European plug (spare lead that came with a PC or something) on a six way - two minute job - have been using it for years. The adaptor is probably fine though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Of course it is fine. The chargers draw a tiny current, probably a fraction of an amp. The adaptor must surely be rated at 13 amps, and if not, then surely certainly 5amps.

Ardsian,
I am no electrical expert but the crucial thing at the end of the day is how manty total amps you are drawing through the adaptor / french socket. If you still have the UK 3 pin plug on the end of your multiadaptor then the most you can pull is the rating of the fuse in that, normally 13amp. This is Ok for lots of phone chargers, laptops etc. The only problem, certainly in France is that it can be possible to plug your travel plug into a socket without an earth, (in France the earth in the socket is a male "pin" that goes into the plug the opposite way round to the power pins) that is intended to run only lighting and this circuit may only have a 6amp fuse or breaker on it. So if you plugged your laptop, your travel iron (for waxing yourskis of course) and a huge ghetto blaster into your multiadaptor you could blow the trip. However just to put into perspective you will find french people create the most amazing structures by plugging a 4 way into a 4 way into a 2 way into the socket in the wall and have a huge spaghetti of wires trailing from them powering averything in the room and they don't seem to worry at all.
