Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Standard ski bags

Do these offer proper protection to skis when being shipped by air? Apart from packing clothes around the skis, is there anything else available on the market to protect them?

Cheers, cathy and kermit. Was thinking more along the bubble wrap lines rather than spanking 70 quid on something new....

I have a sheet of bubble wrap that stays in my ski bag - skis get wrapped in that and then spare sets of clothes shoved in the bag as well. Never had a problem. Yet.

To protect the edges I use some pipe insulation - you know the foam stuff that comes in lengths of about a meter. With both skis together just cut up a couple of lengths and slide it over the ski edges........easy and light too!! Very Happy

Tommy4681, Me thinks packing clothes around skis kills two birds with one stone, bit of protection for skis and more space in your suitcase, or whatever. On saying that when I started skiing (3 yrs ago) I was worried about damage (I've always flown), but now I'm not really bothered - the bases are now full of PTex and stuff from rocks, trees etc, they're still a lot better than me! Don't worry about it.

Anything that you pad/cover skis with will only offer cosmetic protection to your skis - and that's assuming it's an unpadded bag - airport handlers are capable of bending anything.

In about 15 years of flying with my own skis, they've never suffered damage.

Ha ha ha! I'm loving it! S&R are such a rip off!

Completly agree with allanm btw, get a ski bag with maybe just padding around the binding, then pack clothes around the rest of the ski...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yep, forgot to mention that Spyderjon. £5 on some pipe insulation and voila, added protection for ski edges and poles. Job as they say, is a good un! Very Happy
