Poster: A snowHead
|
Following on from a meeting a my local Middle School last night where I was posing as the "expert", there were 3 questions I couldn't answer. I'm sure the Snowheads will be able to help with these issues from one of our favourite resorts.
1. Is there a cashpoint at Arc 1800?
2. What helmet policy are ESF and Skiset pursuing this year? Are helmets compulsory? Readily available? Supplied free with boot and ski hire?
3. Are lift-pass photos still needed or is Les Arcs now all hands free?
Thanks for any help.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

1. I believe there is a cashpoint at 1800, near the post office I think.
2. Haven't a clue.
3. We needed photos last season but I have an inkling they went hands-free this season.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Chris Bish,
1.I think I'm right in saying the only cashpoint is at Arc 2000, although that may have changed since last year,
2. Pass - over to you PG
3. No
When are you off? I'm going to P-V on Saturday - thank goodness its started to snow!

1. Loads of cashpoints in Arc 1800. One we used was near Golf Hotel. Was one near the Arc Adventure office too.
2. Saw plenty of ESF schools without helmets, although as far as I can remember all the younger groups were helmeted.
3. Arc is definately all hands free. Very handy (or not), just put in your left hand side pocket and it registers as you enter the turnstile.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Chris Bish, several, highly recommended, readily available (less so in Feb), yes - to be scanned for electronic pass...

Thanks chaps. I need definitive word on the helmets question as newbie parents are (understandably) nervous on safety issues and want to know their kids are protected.
I know very well helmets are nothing like the whole story as far as safety is concerned, but its an obvious isssue for a risk assessment.

PG, We've crossed in the post.
I would hope to be able to say that helmets will be available as part of the ski and boot hire deal.
Thanks for the other info.

[edit] can't remember which passes the photos are needed for, ie it depends on length of stay. Perhaps it's only the likes of the season pass, I'll check....

Chris Bish, definitely - if you're booking up gear in advance from SkiSet.
Have you already been in touch with ski schools / ski rental places ? Might have been able to get you a deal....

Pete, I'm not actually involved in this trip at all. I got asked along to the parents meeting because by the standards of the teachers going I'm an "experienced " skier. I'm also the only one that has been to Les Arcs.
It is the first time this school has organised a ski trip and they have put the whole thing into the hands of a company who specialises in this kind of thing. They use Skiset. Jon and I went to the meeting last night to show people what sort of gear to buy and to answer questions about the resort.
Jon and I were invited to join the trip, but we didn't fancy it very much as it meant coach travel from Staffordshire and probably responsibilty for things I can do without in my Easter Hols. Jon and I will be about in the Alps during that week and will almost certainly be dropping in to see how they are getting on, but I'm not comitting myself to anything for that week until 1. I've seen how my knee copes with 3V at half-term and 2. I've had a look at the late deals and snow.
If you are about in that week (or half term for that matter). we must meet up.

Chris Bish, Definitely don't need a photo for the six day pass...I assume that's what they'll be using.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

My girlfriend didn't need a photo for her six day pass (even though she did have one with her when she bought the pass). I did need a photo for my season pass - not sure where the break is between needing a photo and not needing one, but I guess it's season passes only.

OK thanks all. Think I have the answers I was hoping for. I'll pass this on to the organisers of the trip.
