Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I reckon you'll find somewhere. Winnats Pass would be cool, although I wouldn't enjoy the walk up in ski boots!
There were a group of skiers on the Bolehills today - I'd been up there with my snowboard earlier in the week, but these guys had the stereo system and had built a big kicker. Looked really good.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There was about 8 inches here this morning (about 30 miles south of Sheff) and it carried on snowing right up until dinnertime. But alas the temperature has clearly risen this afternoon/evening. There have been wet sleety showers and the snow now looks wet and sugary. However, it might be better higher up in the peaks. Friends in Matlock about 15 miles away still reckon they're snowed in (lightweights!)...
Just keep your eye on conditions on t'interweb and take it from there...

Son skied in Peak District on Wed; I asked him where and he said in a big, long field. He's doing a Masters

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Still plenty of snow here near Matlock, it doesn't seem to have melted much today

I've just been walking at Burbage/Longshaw and in places the snow was knee deep. I saw one couple on cross country skis, but didn't try myself.

I would like to see a CHAIRLIFT built and run in the peak district that could be used through out the year.
A gondola lift was built and is run at Matlock Bath so why not have a (Lottery funded) chairlift for snowsliders and other visiters to the area?
I believe there is a large catchment market for a natural ski centre in the midlands.
"Build it and they will come"
Something like the chairlift at Glencoe c/w carpark, etc would do nicely.
The question is where should it be though?

I did go to the peak district yesterday getting to edale railway station at 7:45. I then hiked along rushup edge which had looked really good from the train but was unable to find anything worth skiing on either side apart from a couple of ribbons of not very wide snow although I hadn't by this point figured out exactly how low the snow to grass ratio can be for something to be skiable.
Then I went over to mam to which had a nice upper section, bit tufty, and a really nice lower section with lots of short powder pitches. From there I could see loose hill which looked to have really good cover so I hiked over there doing a couple of runs on the way. Loose hill had some really nice bits, just off the summit there is a wall that goes down the hill that a really deep and wide snowdrift by it that no one had touched and the snow just got better the further down you went. Was pretty mellow but the snow was so good and there was a fun jump over a tumble down wall half way that I did it twice. Then from the top of loose hill there was a reallly cool run starting off moderatley steep and wide before descending into some melloe untouched powder fields.
All in all an excellent day in which I met several other skiers to hike and ski with untill in the apres ski the bar maid refused to accept my ID.
If it snows again on sunday and you have any spare time on monday or tuesday and some skiis that you're not fussed about the bases of I would really recomend that you get out there and ski the peaks.
