Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Quickie: Valloire to Valmeinier by road?

 Poster: A snowHead

Can you?

Is it an open valley road between the two, or a closed-in-winter-due-to-being-a-piste type affair, yielding a 5 hour round trip?

It's difficult to determine these things on Google maps (try asking it how to get from La Rosiere to La Thuile, for instance Smile)

Yes you can. When you drive up to Valloire from St Michel de Maurienne you pass the turn off to Valmeinier. Can't recall if you'd have to go over the Col du Télégraphe again or not - think not. The road is good with the obvious proviso that it could be tricky in a blizzard but essentially it is a normal access road to a ski resort. No idea how long it would take. Skiing there is more fun - there's a choice of two lovely long blues (Armera or Combe Orsiere).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Excellent cheers.

Good that the Valmeinier skiing is more fun too, since that's where we're staying. I phrased the question backwards. Thinking about nipping to Valloire of an evening to enjoy what looks like a better selection of grub.

I meant skiing to get there is more fun than driving there! Bit ambiguous. Valloire is a more attractive village with more restaurants, but we skied both sides most days - the link isn't too bad now there is the moneul chair instead of a drag.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Not in the middle of the night after a steak frites it won't be.
