Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The skiing and the type of turn she is at (and I repeat she is doing very well), she will benefit from unweighting the skis (using legs, not upper body, like i seen an ESF instructor do Sad !) to help initiate the new turn.

I think that's the thing, using your legs and not bobbing up and down with your upper body. I'm no instructor though, just like to enter these discussions to help think about things to try or modify. When I'm skiing I try not to think too much Smile

From the number of people that jump in every time someone posts a video, I'd say this place is grossly underused.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

comprex, Are you saying that not many people contribute? There must be lots like me who read/try to learn, but who wouldn't dare to offer suggestions/criticism of someone else's skiing - I feel completely unqualified to do so.

Hurtle, not enough peeps submit video.

Beyond 6-7 comments per video, I don't think there is much benefit to the OP. Since so many like to enter the discussions to suggest or to ask for clarification, we need more videos.

The embarassment/privacy argument is really out the window: this section is NOT open to unregistered visitors and lookit how many peeps answered the 'What do you do' thread.

comprex, oh, I see. My embarrasment starts at an earlier stage - don't like to ask friends to take pics/videos of me skiing, seems rather an imposition. No doubt that it's super-useful, though, one of the reasons I learned such a lot on the course I did the other week.

Yes, agreed about the 'what do you do' thread, it was fairly revealing, though some (including me) answered in fairly vague, unidentifiable terms.

comprex, ah. Btw, I thought it was only the Apres section that wasn't open to the public, but that the rest was. Confused

Hurtle, I kind of like it.

It means that you know who is getting tips from whom and that everyone has read their T&Cs.

Only if they reveal their credentials. I haven't the least idea what yours are, btw. But you sound as though you know what you're on about - even if I sometimes have to resort to Googling your bons mots for further clarification! wink

Hurtle, comprex, Just to put 5 eggs in! I found the feedback invaluable. You can relate all the comments made when you keep refering back to the vids. I know its no substitute for lessons, but i'm off to southampton to have a go at some of it. So your comments and advice are definately not wasted.

My only concern was that the instructor snowHead s would think it was a bit cheeky to ask them to help.

Seems I was wrong, I got loads of help.

Thanks snowHead snowHead snowHead

Think of it like this. Car are are able to turn because by virtue of their weight the front wheels are pressed against the tarmac and then they are turned. So the top ski has to be pressed against the snow.It has to be rolled onto its inside edge, and then the turning will begin. However it has to be done with a degree of comitment and at the right speed. Try it below an appropriate speed and you'll just fall over. The words are: stand on it(top ski) and turn it.
