Incident: Labor union strike and demonstrations
Location: France - Nationwide
Date: Jan. 29
Forecast
French main labor unions - CFDT, CFE-CGC, CFTC, CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires and Unsa - have called on all French workers, retirees, students and the unemployed to publicly protest the feared negative consequences from the current economic crisis. Demonstrations will take place in all major cities, with the largest in Paris. Participants could number between 500,000 and 1 million. Violence is unlikely but possible; if it occurs, it will likely stay limited.
Workers from virtually all industry branches are to stop working Jan. 29. While strikes by health service, postal and utility company personnel will likely only have small disruptive effects, striking Air France-KLM (AF) airline and national rail (SNCF) personnel will massively disrupt air and train traffic nationwide. Air traffic controllers and ground services at airports will also be massively disrupted as will be local transport nationwide.
Advice
Expect flight cancellations and delays as well as limited availability of rail service. Consider alternate flights or other modes of transportation. Do not rely on public transportation to reach destinations Jan. 29. Avoid all rallies. Expect business closures Jan. 29.

I recall that there was something similar last January and that there were signs around the lifts stations saying there might be action - but all seemed to be running on the day. I hope that anyone on here travelling is not inconvenienced too much - it will probably be difficult to get real definitive information till too late.

Boris, our syndicat sent us a memo about the strike, but as far as I know not many people are doing it, so I assume things will be open as usual.
