Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sugar Bowl (near Lake Tahoe)

Anyone been?

We're going for a week at the end of March, staying in a friend's cabin about 3 miles from there. (I think this is a "genuine" cabin from the old days, not a purpose-built ski lodge).

Anyway, I'd like opinions on whether it will keep me interested for a week, in which case I'd buy a cheap week pass online. Otherwise, I'll get day passes at two or more Tahoe resorts. (I have skied at a couple of them before - mainly Squaw Valley - and I will have a car).

We get down most "groomers" pretty quickly, but might concentrate on improving ungroomed technique, which will slow us up a bit (well me, anyway).

Any thoughts welcome. snowHead

The locals at Alpine always seem to rate Sugarbowl as Tahoe's secret gnarly terrain (maybe because in buying an AM season pass they have to pledge never to say anything good about Squaw wink ). Personally I'd think it would be nice to get a day in at Squaw & Alpine for a change - they aren't far from Donner Summit.

fatbob, thanks - feeling good about SB now - plus, I'll probably do 1 day at SV for old times' sake and 1 day at AM for something new. I don't think the snow is great by historical standards around Tahoe at the moment, but of course there's plenty of time for that to change. snowHead

laundryman, Yep, been when we were in Tahoe Smile Enjoyed the day there, but its quite small. Thought it was worth the drive and Donner Lake is great on a good day.

Remember some gnarly stuff off the top chair, and the chairlift going over the railway Shocked Enjoyed AM too Smile

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Bones, Hurtle, thanks. Left to me, I'd explore a fair bit, but our host isn't as practised as us, so may be content on his "home" slope - I wouldn't want to drag him around or be unsociable. I'll just have to play it by ear, I think.
