Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flaine in the middle of April

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone,
Thinking about Flaine for a late season blast. Would prefer somehwere higher, but heard lots of good things. Wondering how many runs will be skiable at that time of the year.
Any advice please?

gregoates, have been in Flaine last couple of years into the second week of April and there was still plenty of skiing to be had. I love it there and I would probably take a chance if it was me but I guess you are talking about a week or so later?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

gregoates, the last two years have been particularly good into April. It's not always as good as that, and you could find things pretty slushy. It's so impossible to say, at this point, what either the snow cover or the weather will be like. If it's really warm, but freezing at night, then however deep the snow you can expect spring conditions - hard icy pistes first thing, then OK for a while, then quite pleasant sloshy slushy stuff, then just grot (de la soupe, as the French say). But that does make for lovely deckchair weather. Higher would be better, if you want to be more sure of finding some good skiing.
