Poster: A snowHead

Hi Snowheads.
I managed to get accomodation half term week through this forum, so now I need to know where to ski please!?
We have 4 full days (Thurs to Sun) and are a mixed party of 4, 1 black run skier, 2 blue/red runs skiers and a 9 year old who can tackle most things.
When we ski together as a group, where should I be looking to ski? We want to avoid the worst of the half term crowds if possible, and will almost certainly hire a car. Personally I like long lazy blues, so any recommendations where to get some of these that are quiet will be most appreciated. Our accomodation is near the Super Morzine bubble, and I quite like the look of the blues here.
Thanks in advance

kyoto49, hmm, quiet runs at half term?! Quieter might be a better description. With your group you should be able to get up and away from the main nursery areas/main lifts and stay up top but nowhere will be quiet
Maybe an Avoriaz expert could point you in the right direction.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Slightly less manic might be an even better description....

I'd suggest up Super Morzine, then ski a few runs over to the Swiss side, but someone more local probably has better suggestions. My experience is that it's quieter, and although the runs are labelled red, they're at the blue end of red (except the wall of course).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

and you can go down that on the chair lift, so no worries (that's what I did!).

A black run skier might like 'the wall' at avoriaz towards Switzerland and Chamosiere at the very top of Morzine above the pleney lift.

kyoto49, the following should all be "quieter":
- Mont Chery area in Les Gets - most people can't be arsed crossing through one side of Les Gets to the other and, IIRC, there isn't a ski school on that side - the blacks off the back are invariably quiet and the restaurant at the bottom of the blacks is a comparitively non-competitive spot for lunch (although you should really book a table at La Grande Ourse at the top of the run of the same name
- blues around the Zore lift on Super Morzine - most people ignore these runs as they see them as "transit" runs - the restaurant at the bottom of Zore is reasonable and, again, not as competitive to eat in as other places - although you will need to book
- Hautes Forts area of Avoriaz - working the Grandes Combes lift - the blacks put people off - few people even seem to realise that the Crozats (SnowCross) run / bowl even exists. Eating at the bottom of Prodains is a reasonable option that, again, won't be as competitive as elsewhere
- runs around the Perrieres lift in Les Gets are usually much quieter than the main bowl - with the advantage of being able to eat at La Paika (off Vorosses) - see the snow report thread (!) for rave reviews
- (a bit single issue this, but) the Brocheaux run / lift is much underused / unappreciated
- off piste
Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will try and isolate the areas on the piste map. I'm getting very excited now...!
