I have got some new boots but my skis are set for my old ones, I have gone down in boot size so will need to change my bindings, I will keep the din the same.
How do I change the length, as when I brought my skis the shop set it all up for me out the back so I didn't see what they did.

It's a quick inexpensive shop job, but not something to attempt yourself if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Exact method of changing binding length depends on the binding make and model. As long as the boot sole length is not dramatically different, there should be enough adjustment range.

jtobin03, Depends on specific type of binding, what do you have?.
If its an integrated binding then its usually pretty straightforward but does vary from model to model exactly how its done. Safest way is to take them to a local shop to get them re-set if you're not confident about these things.

Got marker bindings, had another look on the plate there are some numbers do these relate to the length of the boot. Secondly I take it the mid point on the boot lines up with the mid point on the plate.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

jtobin03, what binding model?
Yes the markings will be sole length.

jtobin03, What the others say - unless you have a huge change in boot sole size - the mid point shift is probably not critical. If you have to ask how to do this - you really should get someone else to do it in a shop, and I think people would be unwise to tell you how to do it on an internet forum.

stoatsbrother, I agree, if you don't set the forward pressure correctly the DIN settings will be useless.

Lots of confusing info out there though and if you don't fully understand it and do it correctly you might end up with a badly twisted knee or nasty pre-release for the sake of 5 mins in the shop.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I had a bad experience where a rental shop only adjusted one binding. Found out at the top of the mountain after a long cable car ride when I tried to clip in for the first time.
A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous but on the other hand can be bloody useful at times.
If I own a piece of equipment I prefer to have a basic understanding of how it works, those who want to stick a paper bag over their heads and remain ignorant are welcome to, its a free country.

rich, I would absolutely agree with that - I have seen some really odd adjustments by rental shops working to a notional boot sole length rather than properly adjusting the boot on the binding - but I would also suggest this is something best learnt by having it shown to you by someone. Personal opinion.

You know it makes sense.

Think that I will pop to the shop and just ask to be shown.

stoatsbrother, In principal I agree with you but in this country this basic information seems to be closely guarded, finding someone who'll let you into the club is nigh on impossible.

rich, It's guarded by the binding manufacturers themselves because they don't want untrained punters setting up their own bindings. Marker won't even publish their tech manual for the general public, only shops. Bindings should be adjusted by a trained tech unless you really know what you're doing.
