Poster: A snowHead

Sorry if this is a numptie question.
I am heading out to Canazei this weekend and I am taking my 4yr old Bandit X skis with me - which I like for piste skiing.
A work mate has also offered me his 5yr old X-Screams in good nick to take as well.
Question is:
I skied with X-screams about 6 yrs ago and liked them for going "between pistes", down through the trees, and mucking about in. But not being the fittest of skiers and tending towards being lazy whilst in cruise mode I found them hard work when wanting to cruise down the blues when I was tired (poor soul, I know ).
If it dumps snow or we are thinking about off pisting would I be better hiring something newer out there for the day or are X-screams still up there for having fun on?
cheers
S

scotabroad, If it dumps you'd be better off on something much phatter. But Xscreams will work just as they used to, so why not ?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

depending on how much your work mate has used them then I am sure there wont be much life left in them after 5 yrs.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I used to like X-Screams but newer off piste skis are a lot better. Not sure why they'd be hard work cruising down blue runs though? Anyway, you'd be better off hiring a new mid-fat.

ha..good ol Xscreams but woefully outclassed now....
If you had XX's you'd cover both bases... but you don't...so stick with the X's on piste and hire newer skis if it snows.....
I certainly wouldn't waste a carriage fee on the Xscreams but if they go in your roof box, then ok...might save you a hire fee...
But, today's all-round skis are around 88 plus and will probably be miles better at doing everything than what you have..
Shame, but true..IMV

Still a decent bump ski for fall-line absorption bump skiers.

Fair point - more accurately they need a bit of effort compared to more piste oriented ski & I'm a lazy unfit git

comprex, What would you suggest is best current ski for that style of skiing? Would need to be an allround piste ski, rather than a mogul specific.

Still have mine, but to be honest, I replaced my 187's with a pair of 160 3V s-cleavers. Still good ski's though back in the day.
