Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Amade Question

Evening all

First time posting here but I have been lurking for a number of days. U guys know your stuff.

Just want a little advice on Ski Amade.

Myself and a few friends have found cheap flights from the 26-30 March to Salzburg, getting in late on the 26th and leaving late on the 30th (potential 4 days ski/boarding). Ive boarded once so keen to just go on my own but my friends are newbies so will require 3 days lessons.

At Ski Amade, is it an actual location that has loads of different resorts within it? We dont plan on renting a car so just want to be in 1 location where we can get a transfer to the slopes in the morn the back in the evening to our accomodation. All we need is a few runs, nothing too advanced. Could you recommend one of the resorts / ski ares in Ski Amade?

Also, is it possible to arrange transfers from the airport direct to your accomodation? I have been on www.skiamade.com and dropped them an email

cheers all

I was in Skiamade in December, staying in Radstadt ata hotel run by a snowhead (flangesax). A transfer in the morning will definitely get you to an area where you can enjoy a day's skiing, and you can go to different areas each day.

The transfer from the airport was easy to organise. I booked a taxi with Huber Reisen, see

www.huberreisen.at

it was 40.90 euros return per person. Depending on the number of people there might be a cheaper option.

A few snowheads live in the area so I'm sure more knowledgeable people will reply soon.

Welcome to snowheads! Skiamade is a group of fab resorts, mostly linked by bus - runs for MILES...my votes would be

schaldming - with beginners head to HAUS or ROHRMOOS or schladming town (planai) as a backup (reiteralm/gleming/pichl are scary steep at the bottom for beginners).
Wagrain is nice, as is flachau for a mixed group.
Radstadt - gasthof torwirt is nice and cheap to stay, and right by the bus stop/ski hire, but means a bus everyday as the hills are not skiin/out to the town.

Yes you can get transfers - E100-140 for up to a 6 person taxi - http://engl.salzburg-airport.com/bus_840.html for loads of companies - I'd suggest http://www.ski-transfer-salzburg.at/ who I used last week and were fab.

just got back with a mixed boarder/skier group and had a great time, only concern would be snow by end of march, you may want to try booking accomodation as close to the holiday as you dare to see where has the best snow!

AJ, cheers for the advice.

Is the nightlife good at the resorts? It will be 6 lads with some of them keen on a few beers and partying

ah - schaldming town/planai, tricky to find the bars (fab soundproofing!), but plenty there if you look including a couple of clubs. Rohrmoos and haus are very quiet.
others I can't vouch for as i went with quiet family groups there and never set foot out of doors after dark Wink

Ciaran123, welcome to snowHeads snowHead

I spent 2 weeks in Wagrain a couple of years ago, and loved the area. Good choice!

The best place for night life in high season is probably Flachau, in quieter times Schladming.
There are loads of bars and 2 big night clubs plus other bits and bobs in Schaldming.... Flachau has 1 night club a casino and lots of bars.
I would go for Schladming if the night life is that important. There is a good amount of skiing accross the 4 connected mountains and you can get busses from Schladming to Reiteralm and then Reiteralm to Fageralm (a hidden little gem of a days skiing). You can also get direct post buses to the Sportwelt Area too.
