Poster: A snowHead
|
Bought a pair of K2 Extremes on sunday and after reading various posts on here I've gathered they should be hot waxed before use to remove all the rubbish from the factory? However when the shop rang me up to tell me the bindings where done, I asked them to wax them for me and he said they are already done at the factory??
Is he talking out of his rear?? Don't really wanna do any unnecessary damage to the bases for the sake of a wax.

You're not going to damage your bases by waxing them unless you try to....

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The contrarian view: Ski 'em. I always hit a huge pointy rock within 5 minutes of putting on a new set of skis, so a slightly iffy factory wax is the least of my worries. Once you put a nice hefty gouge in the bases; wax 'em, it'll make it look slightly less distressing.

I just did two hot scrapes on my new skis and did lift a bit of crud out of them. Then some Zardoz mixed with a wide temp range wax... I'll give em a scrape and brush before I head out. It's an easy job once you've done it a couple of times.

I'm with spyderjon and Scarpa on this one. You've spent you're hard earned on your new planks, so spending a few mins taking care of them is worth the effort

Cheers guys, that was the impression I'd got from here from the other threads but hadn't read anything on "factory wax" so it threw me out a bit when he said that. I've had a look at spyderjon's site and it looks easy enough.
II, I know I meant its hardly worth causing unnecessary damage when all it would take to prevent it was a wax. Can see how I worded it could be took either way though lol

anotherproblem, Yup.. skiing dried out bases causes the dreaded fuzziness. I started with a little travel iron, but a proper one pays for itself in saved time. Unless you want the ultimate in fast speed there is no need to so too mad on the scraping and brushing. I use a couple of cheap nylon brushes (poundshop type). The Zardoz Notwax is fantastic over the top (or part of the wazing process) and does seem to make the wax last longer - as in all week.
I can recommend spyderjon for supplies.
